Buying guide
Launch monitors for small rooms and short garages
Short answer
In a short room, pick a launch monitor that sits beside the ball or on the ceiling, so nothing has to fit behind you. Units on the floor behind the golfer, mostly radar, need the most depth. The saving is a few feet, not half the room: most guides still want about 10 ft from ball to screen. Most beside-the-ball makers publish no room size at all.

- Units that sit behind the golfer
- Left out, and why
The launch monitors that need the least room sit beside the ball or on the ceiling. A unit on the floor behind you needs its own stretch of floor, plus a set distance of ball flight in front. Shop Indoor Golf says radar units should sit 7 to 9 ft behind the player. The eight current models below sit beside the ball or on the ceiling instead.
How we picked
- On sale now. Discontinued and announced models are out.
- Placement. The unit sits beside the ball or on the ceiling, so it takes no floor space behind the golfer.
- Published distances. We use the maker’s own figures where they exist and say when a figure comes from a retailer instead. Most makers of beside-the-ball units publish no room dimensions at all.
- Not an accuracy ranking. The picks are listed by US price, lowest first.
Check your room against every model with the Bay Sizer, and see the room size guide for how depth adds up.
How much space a small-room unit saves
Less than you might hope. Of the eight general guides in our data that discuss the distance from ball to screen, six recommend about 10 ft whatever the launch monitor, and Shop Indoor Golf warns that cutting depth too far raises the risk of ricochet and bounce-back. The saving is behind the golfer. Shop Indoor Golf’s room table gives 15 to 16 ft of depth for camera units beside the ball or on the ceiling, and 16 to 19 ft for radar behind the golfer. GolfBays gives 4 m (13.1 ft) for camera systems and 5 m (16.4 ft) for radar.
Width does not shrink. Shop Indoor Golf suggests 12 to 13 ft for beside-the-ball units, 13 to 15 ft for ceiling-mounted ones and 12 to 15 ft for radar behind the golfer. Several beside-the-ball units, including the Garmin R50, both Square Golf models and the Uneekor EYE MINI, also have to move to the other side of the ball for a left-handed golfer.
Square Golf Launch Monitor (Home Edition)
Why it qualifies. The Home Edition ($699) is a compact camera unit that stands on the floor beside the ball. Square Golf calls it “built for indoor environments”. It needs no subscription, and GSPro lists it as officially supported.
The catch. Square Golf publishes no room dimensions or ball-to-screen distance. Spin needs its marked balls. For Square Golf, PlayBetter calls a 10 ft ceiling ideal, though 9 ft or even 8.5 ft may work.
Who it suits. The smallest budget for a short room. See Square Golf vs MLM2PRO.
Square Omni (Omni Edition)
Why it qualifies. The Omni ($1,599) also sits beside the ball. Square Golf says any ball works without markings. No subscription is required.
The catch. Square Golf gives no room dimensions. Shop Indoor Golf and PlayBetter each suggest a room size for it, but PlayBetter calls its figures “simply guidelines”, and neither is a Square Golf specification. Stock is limited, and PlayBetter expects late fall 2026 shipping.
Who it suits. Small rooms where you want club speed and face impact data and no marked balls.
SkyTrak (original)
Why it qualifies. The SkyTrak ($1,995 list) sits beside the ball, and it has the smallest maker room-depth figure of any current model in our data: SkyTrak’s FAQ recommends a minimum indoor space 10′ deep. SkyTrak’s store showed it well below list price when checked.
The catch. The FAQ does not name a model, and SkyTrak’s Knowledge Base gives a 12 ft minimum depth for a simulator room in general. GSPro and Awesome Golf do not support SkyTrak. SkyTrak sells course play as yearly plans, and which of them the original unit can use is not confirmed. E6 APEX support is in conflict: TruGolf lists SkyTrak, while PlayBetter says SkyTrak closed third-party software to new customers.
Who it suits. Practice in a very short room, for golfers who do not need GSPro.
Uneekor EYE MINI
Why it qualifies. The EYE MINI ($2,999 at retailers) is a camera unit beside the ball that reads unmarked balls. It works with GSPro and E6 Connect.
The catch. Uneekor’s own space figures for it are not in our data. PlayBetter suggests a minimum room, but calls it its own recommendation, not Uneekor’s. Third-party simulators need Uneekor’s Pro package ($199 a year) or higher, and the PC needs an Ethernet port. Switching hands means moving the unit to the other side of the hitting zone.
Who it suits. Small rooms with a Windows PC and plans for GSPro.
Bushnell Launch Pro (Circle B Edition)
Why it qualifies. The Launch Pro ($2,999.99 at retailers) stands upright beside the hitting area, on the same level as the ball, according to Bushnell’s manual. It needs no special balls.
The catch. Bushnell gives no room dimensions or ball-to-screen distance. Every simulator route needs a paid tier: course play needs Silver ($199 a year) plus a Course Pass, and GSPro needs Gold. The manual has a left- or right-handed setting, and the unit goes on the golfer’s side of the ball.
Who it suits. Golfers who want Foresight’s software in a small room. See also the Bushnell Launch Pro Indoor, a mains-powered indoor version.
Garmin Approach R50
Why it qualifies. Garmin’s manual puts the R50 ($4,999.99) about 1.5 ft to the side of the tee, at roughly tee height. PlayBetter suggests a space at least 10 ft wide and 10 ft deep. Garmin’s own simulator, Home Tee Hero, runs on the unit’s built-in touchscreen, with no PC or phone needed.
The catch. The room figures are PlayBetter’s, not Garmin’s. Carl’s Place allows more swing space around the golfer for the R50 than for most launch monitors. Home Tee Hero needs a Garmin Golf membership ($99.99 a year).
Who it suits. A short, tidy room with no PC. See R10 vs R50.
Foresight Sports GC3
Why it qualifies. The GC3 ($6,999 list) is a three-camera unit that, according to PlayBetter, “sits to the side of the golf ball rather than behind”, so it takes no floor space behind you. Foresight’s store showed it well below list price when checked.
The catch. Foresight publishes no room dimensions or ball-to-screen distance. PlayBetter recommends a room 10 ft wide, 10 ft deep and 9 ft tall, but the same page’s introduction says 12 to 15 ft deep. For units bought from 18 September 2026, course play needs Foresight+ Silver ($199 a year) plus a Course Pass, and GSPro needs Gold. Switching between right- and left-handed golfers means moving the unit to the other side of the ball.
Who it suits. A premium budget in a short room. The GCQuad ($15,999) and QuadMAX ($19,999) set up the same way: Foresight’s manuals put them upright about 22 in from the hitting area.
Trackman iO
Why it qualifies. The Trackman iO ($13,995) mounts on the ceiling. Its product page says “there are no minimum distance requirements in front of or behind the ball”, only room to swing. Trackman’s setup page still gives 8 ft 2 in as the minimum tee-to-screen distance, with 10 ft recommended for safety and comfort.
The catch. It needs height. Trackman gives a minimum room height of 9 ft 4 in. Its blog calls 15 ft of width a “strong benchmark” for a centre tee, and points narrower rooms to the iO Duo. GSPro does not support Trackman, and whether a software plan ($700 a year for the cheapest listed) is required is not confirmed.
Who it suits. Short rooms with a high ceiling and a premium budget.
Units that sit behind the golfer
For comparison, these current models sit on the floor behind the ball. Five use radar, some with a camera added; Rapsodo’s page names cameras for the MLM2PRO, and a radar component is not confirmed. Their published figures:
| Launch monitor | Unit behind the ball | Ball to screen |
|---|---|---|
| Blue Tees Rainmaker (retailer figures) | 5′ | 10′ |
| Garmin Approach R10 | 6′ | 8′ |
| Rapsodo MLM2PRO | 6′6″ | 8′ |
| FlightScope Mevo Gen2 | 8′ | 8′ |
| Full Swing KIT | 8′ | 8′ |
| Trackman 4 | 6′ | 10′ |
Add the two, then the gap behind the screen. Rapsodo says taller players may need the unit further back. See R10 vs MLM2PRO.
Left out, and why
- Uneekor EYE MINI LITE and Bushnell Launch Pro Indoor: indoor-only, mains-powered versions of the EYE MINI and Launch Pro above, with the same beside-the-ball placement. Carl’s Golfland says the LITE “doesn’t have specific space requirements”, and Bushnell’s page showed the Indoor model sold out when checked.
- Uneekor EYE XO, EYE XO2 and EYE XR: ceiling-mounted, but Uneekor asks for at least 13 ft of width and a 9 to 10 ft mounting height, and its product pages recommend a room 16′ deep.
- Foresight Falcon: ceiling-mounted at 9.5 to 10.5 ft, with no minimum width or depth stated.
