Garmin R10 vs Rapsodo MLM2PRO: which is better for a home simulator?

Updated 13 Oct 20264 min readBuilt from published specs and prices, not hands-on testing. How we research

Short answer

The Garmin R10 is cheaper to run: its shot data needs no subscription, and GSPro does not ask for a Garmin membership. Pick the MLM2PRO if you want spin and club data that Rapsodo labels as measured, but expect to pay for its Premium Membership every year and to hit RPT balls for spin.

Which to pick

Garmin Approach R10

$599.99 list Behind the golfer

Pick it if you want the lowest running cost, plan to play GSPro on a PC, or need a Mac option.

Rapsodo MLM2PRO

$699.99 list Behind the golfer

Pick it if you want spin and club path labelled as measured, and accept Premium every year plus RPT balls for spin.

The Garmin Approach R10 is the cheaper launch monitor to run. Its shot data is free in the Garmin Golf app, and only Garmin’s own simulator needs a membership. Rapsodo lists the MLM2PRO’s spin, club path and angle of attack as Premium Membership features, paid yearly, but it labels those numbers as measured, which Garmin does not say about the R10. Choose the R10 to keep costs down. Choose the MLM2PRO if maker-labelled spin data matters more to you than the annual fee.

How each one measures

Both units sit behind the golfer. Garmin’s spec sheet groups the R10’s metrics under radar headings, and retailer Shop Indoor Golf calls it Doppler radar. Garmin lists club speed, face angle, club path, angle of attack, ball speed, launch angle and direction, spin rate and spin axis, and states accuracy for some, such as ball speed within 1 mph. No source checked says which R10 numbers are measured and which are calculated, which matters most for spin, or whether indoor spin needs special balls.

Rapsodo is more specific. Its product page tags ball speed, club speed, launch angle, launch direction, spin rate, spin axis, club path and angle of attack as measured. There are two catches. Spin only appears with Rapsodo’s RPT balls (“Golf balls with RPT are required to show spin numbers”), sold in Callaway and Titleist versions. And face angle is not in Rapsodo’s metric list at all. Rapsodo’s page names “Impact Vision and dual camera” among the features; whether the MLM2PRO also uses radar is not confirmed.

What this means: if you want a maker’s written claim that spin is measured, only Rapsodo gives one. If you want face angle, only Garmin lists it.

What you pay over three years

  • R10: $599.99. The Garmin Golf membership costs $99.99 a year (or $9.99 per month), and Garmin lists only Home Tee Hero, swing video storage and green contours as membership features, not any shot metric. If you use GSPro instead, you pay GSPro’s $250 per year. GSPro’s list of launch monitors that need a maker subscription names Rapsodo but not Garmin.
  • MLM2PRO: $699.99 list. Premium costs $199.99 a year and unlocks spin rate, spin axis, club path, angle of attack, Rapsodo Courses and R-Cloud. GSPro also requires it, so a GSPro setup pays for both. The included trial is given as 45 days in Rapsodo’s FAQ and 21 days elsewhere on the same page.

Per year, Rapsodo’s plan costs about twice Garmin’s membership, and on the MLM2PRO you need it for core data, not just for the simulator. Both units were selling below list when checked. The R10 and MLM2PRO pages add up the device plus three years of each plan.

Room space

Both sit behind you, so room depth is the limit. Garmin’s figures put the R10 at least 6′ behind the ball, with the ball at least 8′ from the net or screen. Rapsodo puts the MLM2PRO a little further back, from 6′6″, with the same 8′ in front of the ball. Rapsodo’s numbers add up to 14′6″ from net to unit, and it says taller players may need more. That total leaves out space behind the unit and behind the screen.

Retailer PlayBetter recommends about 21 ft of depth for the R10 and 21.5 ft for the MLM2PRO, with 10 ft of width and a 9 ft ceiling for both. Those are PlayBetter’s figures, not the makers’. Its R10 FAQ also says to cover hard floors between unit and ball and to leave room for a full swing, or distances may read short. Check your room in the Bay Sizer.

Simulator software

The compatibility table has the full list. Here is what each route needs.

R10

  • Home Tee Hero (works directly): Garmin’s simulator, with 43,000+ courses, in a standalone phone app since January 2026. You can cast it to a TV or projector. Needs the membership.
  • GSPro (works directly): pairs with a Windows PC over Bluetooth through GSPro Connect, which comes with GSPro. GSPro’s guide says the R10 does not support putting, so you choose an auto-putt mode.
  • Awesome Golf (works directly): direct Bluetooth on iOS, Mac, Android, ChromeOS and Windows, with R10 firmware v4.50 or later. It is the R10’s only Mac route.
  • E6 Connect (works directly): five iOS courses come free with the R10. PlayBetter says E6 runs on iOS or Windows with the R10, not Android or Mac.

MLM2PRO

  • Rapsodo Courses (works directly): 30,000+ courses in the Rapsodo app on iOS or Android, with Premium.
  • GSPro (works directly): official support through GSPro Connect on a Windows PC. It needs Premium, and the Rapsodo phone app must re-authenticate the unit every 24 hours.
  • Awesome Golf (works directly): on Awesome Golf’s official compatibility list.
  • E6 Connect (works directly): Rapsodo lists it, but TruGolf names Rapsodo only as a brand, and its E6 Connect manual’s device list leaves it out.

Who should pick which

Pick the R10 if you want the lowest running cost, plan to play GSPro on a PC, need a Mac option, or want Garmin’s large course list on a phone. It runs for about 10 hours on battery and is IPX7 water rated. Accept that Garmin does not say how its spin numbers are produced.

Pick the MLM2PRO if measured spin and club path matter most and you are happy to pay for Premium every year and use RPT balls. Rapsodo also sells the newer MLM2XPRO; see MLM2PRO vs MLM2XPRO.

  • Which R10 metrics are measured and which are calculated, and whether its indoor spin needs special balls.
  • Whether the MLM2PRO uses radar as well as cameras, its battery life, putting support and Mac support.
  • Left-handed support for either model, and official UK prices.
  • Whether E6 Connect needs a Garmin membership on the R10 or Premium on the MLM2PRO, and which platforms the MLM2PRO supports in Awesome Golf and E6 Connect.
