Comparison
FlightScope Mevo Gen2 vs Garmin R10: is the Mevo Gen2 worth the extra?
Short answer
The Mevo Gen2 costs about twice as much as the R10 but needs no subscription, includes eight E6 Connect courses for life and supports putting. The R10 is cheaper even after three years of Garmin's membership, needs slightly less room depth, and lists club path and face angle at no extra cost, which the Mevo Gen2 sells as a paid add-on.

On this page
The FlightScope Mevo Gen2 costs about twice as much as the Garmin Approach R10. For the extra money, you get radar plus camera tracking, no required subscription, eight E6 Connect courses you own for life, and putting. The R10 is cheaper to buy and still cheaper after three years of Garmin’s membership. It also lists club path and face angle in its standard data, which the Mevo Gen2 sells as a one-time add-on. Pick the Mevo Gen2 if you want to avoid yearly fees and need putting. Pick the R10 if the purchase price matters most.
How each one measures
FlightScope calls its system Fusion Tracking: “a patented combination of 3D Doppler radar and synchronized image processing (radar + camera)”. The R10 is a radar unit, per Garmin’s spec sheet and retailer descriptions. Both sit behind the golfer.
The Mevo Gen2’s free data includes ball speed, club speed, smash factor, launch angles, spin rate, spin axis, angle of attack, spin loft, apex, carry and total distance. Club path and face angle come only with FlightScope’s paid Pro Package, which adds 11 parameters including swing plane and low point. Strike location on the face needs a separate Face Impact Location add-on. For putting, it reports launch speed, distance and direction.
Garmin’s R10 spec sheet lists club speed, face angle, club path, angle of attack, ball speed, launch angle and direction, spin rate and spin axis, with no paid unlock for any of them.
Neither maker says which numbers are measured and which are calculated. GOLF.com repeats a claim that the Mevo Gen2 uses “actual club and ball measurements”, but does not attribute it to a FlightScope spec. For indoor spin, FlightScope is specific: “Aluminum stickers or Titleist RCT balls required for accurate spin measurements”, and 100 stickers come in the box. No source says whether the R10 needs anything similar.
What you pay over three years
- Mevo Gen2: $1,299, raised from its launch price. FlightScope says there are “no required subscriptions, hidden fees or annual license fees”. The FS Golf app is free. The optional Pro Package and Face Impact Location are one-time purchases. Their prices differ between sources and were sale prices when checked; see FlightScope FS Golf. FlightScope also says the Pro Package adds no courses, and some of its extra numbers may not show in third-party simulators.
- R10: $599.99. Garmin’s membership, $99.99 a year, is needed only for its Home Tee Hero simulator. It unlocks no shot data.
At the prices checked, the R10 plus three years of membership still costs less than the Mevo Gen2 alone. If you play GSPro, both need a GSPro licence ($250 per year), but neither needs a subscription from its maker for it. The Mevo Gen2 and R10 pages have the full breakdown.
Room space
Both need depth behind you. FlightScope gives one fixed position, not a range: the unit goes 8′ directly behind the ball, with 8′ of ball flight. Those two figures add up to 16′ from screen to unit. FlightScope gives no total room depth. Putting has its own, shorter sensor-to-tee distance and a minimum length of flat roll.
The R10 can go a little closer, from 6′ behind the ball, with at least 8′ to the net. PlayBetter’s R10 FAQ gives a minimum room length of 15′.
Shop Indoor Golf’s room guide says radar units such as the Mevo+ and R10 typically need at least 8 ft of ball flight, which implies a room depth of roughly 15 to 17 ft. Add space behind the screen, which room guides put at about 1 to 2 ft. Run your numbers through the Bay Sizer.
Simulator software
E6 Connect (details): the Mevo Gen2 includes lifetime ownership of an 8-course bundle on iOS and PC, and E6 sells FlightScope-specific Basic and Expanded subscriptions for more. The R10 comes with five free iOS courses. PlayBetter says E6 runs on iOS or Windows with the R10.
GSPro (details) works directly with both. GSPro’s official list names the Mevo Gen2, but GSPro’s FlightScope guide covers only the Mevo+, so the Gen2 connection steps are not confirmed. The R10 pairs with a Windows PC over Bluetooth through GSPro Connect, and GSPro says it does not support putting.
Awesome Golf (details) works directly with both. Your device joins the Mevo Gen2’s own Wi-Fi network and needs a second connection for internet. The guide lists iOS, Mac and Windows. The R10 connects over Bluetooth on iOS, Mac, Android, ChromeOS and Windows.
Own software: FlightScope’s FS Golf app is for practice and data, on iOS, Android and Windows. Garmin’s Home Tee Hero has 43,000+ courses on a phone or tablet with the membership. FlightScope also lists Creative Golf 3D as compatible with the Mevo Gen2.
For Mac users, Awesome Golf is the only route on either unit. See the compatibility table.
Who should pick which
Pick the Mevo Gen2 if you dislike subscriptions, want course play included from day one, want putting, or want the maker’s own instructions for indoor spin. The battery lasts up to 6 hours. Budget extra if you want club path and face angle.
Pick the R10 if the purchase price matters most, your room is a little tight, or you want club path and face angle without an add-on. It runs about 10 hours on battery. Also compare it with Rapsodo’s MLM2PRO.
